1st Macclesfield Print Fair
I will be taking part in the first ever Macclesfield Print Fair being held on Saturday 20th September 2014 between 10 am to 3 pm. I will be selling a good selection of my own printmaking from cards to framed prints. Please visit and support.
Here is a bit more information about the event and how to take part.
The Macclesfield Heritage Centre this year is celebrating it’s 200th birthday! To celebrate this fact we are hosting a number of exciting events, including the first Macclesfield Print Fair in September 2014. The fair will take place in the original classrooms of the Sunday School and we are looking for print artists and print makers from across the North West to come along and sell their printed items and demonstrate their print techniques. We are looking for the whole range of Printers to sell and demonstrate from silkscreen printing to lino cut, fabric printing to etching, illustrators to comic book creators!
If you would like more information or to book a space please get in touch with Rose Smith on [email protected].

New additions
I am hoping to take some more photographs in town in the next few months. I was looking at my list of landmarks to use in my printmaking project and feel I need to add a few more. This list could get bigger than I expect!
The new subjects are; Crown Inn with Viaduct and Little Underbank. Apparently, I have been informed that there are a set of old photographs of Stockport on display in St. Mary’s church which I will check out in due course.
Cyanotype print

I produced a number of Cyanotype prints yesterday at a workshop organised by Prospect Studios. The results were wonderful and I hope to create some more.
New print added to Gallery
I have added the etching aquatint ‘Stockport Town Hall’ to the Gallery page which I printed on 5th April 2014.
Spring is here
My printmaking activities on this blog have be quiet of late I must admit. However, I will be publishing new works on the gallery page in the not too distant future.
As spring is officially here and the weather is getting better (well a bit better), I decided to dust off my digital camera and travel down to Stockport to take some reference photographs in and around the Market place. The weather was warm and sunny on that Sunday and I had very productive afternoon. I use photography as a starting point for my prints. The idea is to choose a well composed image, which I then re-touch by carefully removing any unwanted objects, enhancing the colours, sharpening, and cropping. I then create two versions of the selected image; one a positive and the other a negative reverse. The negative version is used as a guide to show me where to use stop out when creating my etching aquatints.
My ambition for this project is to create a collection of different types of printmaking techniques. One little known printmaking technique I will be using is ‘Cyanotype’ (which is how old Blueprints were made). I am currently working on some prints using this technique and hope to share the results on here soon.
Bye for now.
